Is tanning dangerous for me?

My parents are highly against tanning but right now theres no sun out so i can't really tan that well . Anyways I wanna what the chances are of someone like me of getting cancer or melanoma I know the risks and everything so I'm not like completely uninformed. I just really don't think that i am highly prone to it . Anyways my hairs medium/dark brown my decent I'm a 1/4 italian so I tan pretty easy , & my comlexions olive, eyes brown. The reason why I am not my desired color is because A) it's been winter for a few months and B) I'm enimic ( basically i have an iron deficiency which causes me not to have my tan for very long)
