What do teachers consider to be plagiurism?!?

I didn't plagiurize anything in my opinion, i was writing a paper about melanoma for school and certain facts that i have no way of KNOWING, i copied from the book or website into my paper, but its common knowledge.. is that still considered plagiurism??
