Aside from moles, are there any health symptoms of melanoma?

i did go to my doctor and she noticed it, I had never thought anything about it really except the fact that it was darker than my other moles, any how she referred me to a dermatologist but my appoint isn't for another month. I am a bit concerned even though she didn't make me a priority patient for the derm. I was just wondering if there were any other symptoms aside from odd shaped, dark moles
